I find VSCode is okay for JavaScript but does not enjoy PHP or laravel, even with a multitude of extensions. The price of phpstorm stings a little but, but ultimately you get what you pay for. I think what lets Phpstorm down is its looks. It would often decide halfway through a script to change the width of the tab meaning nothing would line up and I'd have to spend time manually correcting it. I also got fed up with VSCode messing up my indenting. Referencing classes without using them? It'll prompt you. Trying to remember the name of a command or helper? It'll prompt you and auto fill it. Add references to a model and forget to declare it? It prompts you.
